I am writing in response to the
Sept. 13 story titled: “Chief proposes stiffer rules on panhandling.”
A waitress has to explain to her
child why a guy who is physically able to work is standing on the road with a sign.
I want to tell her, the guy is working. In fact, he is actually standing on his feet for hours begging for money.
If I had the power, I would hire him right on the spot for a job as a bank guard. The fact that she saw him says a lot. At least, he is not hiding away in an empty office or asleep in a car, while on duty.
That panhandler is earning his money, honestly, the hard way.
To the waitress, I want to see you patrol an empty business in the dead of night with just your “wits.”
