In a coordinated act of kindness from the King County Council, the Auburn Food Bank has received a $2,000 grant. The grant, encouraged by King County Council member Pete von Reichbauer, was awarded to the food bank as a surprise – as an act of community recognition and appreciation designated by the council.
The food bank is a community pillar for many who live in Auburn, and direct funding like the grant ensures that it is able to purchase food and provide services for those who use the food bank. Approximately 140 families use the food bank each day, making this particular contribution especially helpful for the Auburn community.
Debbie Christian, the Auburn Food Bank’s executive director, expressed surprise and gratitude at the allotment of the grant.
“I really appreciate Pete von Reichbauer ‘listening’ and seeking out needs in the community. I’ve never asked him for money. I’ve just shared the need in small-talk conversation as we wait in a food line or meet at random meetings and he shakes my hand – usually saying – ‘keep up the good work.’ ” Christian said.
For those interested in helping the food bank, items such as pasta, peanut butter and hygiene items are in demand.
