In coming weeks, workers will apply sealant material to cracks in various arterial and collector streets throughout Auburn to prolong the life of the pavement that’s already there.

On Tuesday, the City Council awarded the contract for the arterial crack seal project to Doolittle Construction on its low bid of $120,850.

The following streets will receive attention:

• Southeast 304th Street

• 104th Avenue Southeast

• Mountain View Drive

• 3rd Street Southeast and C Street Southwest Interchange

• R Street Southeast, 17th Street Southeast, Howard Road

• Riverwalk Drive Southeast

• Terrace View Drive Southeast

The City received two responsive bids, and the low bid came in at about 21 percent below the engineer’s estimate.

City staff performed reference checks and other verifications to determine that Doolittle Construction met the responsible bidding criteria.

A project budget contingency of $34,987.00 remains in the arterial street fund.

The city expects the project to start this month and wrap up in October.

In other action:

City Councilmembers adopted a new fee schedule for permits, licenses, publications and actions to clarify when developers must pay facility extension fees.

The changed language establishes that 40 percent of the facility extension fees are due when a developer submits application plans for a second review.

This change permits the city to develop an estimate of the extension fees during the first review of the plans.

If a second review is not required, however, 40 percent of the estimated extension fees are due before the city approves the plans.

Once the developer’s plans are approved, the remaining balance of the extension fees are due before the City can issue notice to go ahead with construction.
