A look at the Auburn volleyball program, its players and key matches

AUBURN TROJANS

• Coach: Shelley Davis, first year

• Last year: 1-11 overall

• Top returners: Katie Green, senior, middle blocker, 5-foot-8; Kelsie Green, senior, opposite, 5-7; Kianna Ly, junior, libero, 5-5; Simone Liu, junior, outside hitter, 5-6; Alyssa Hinz, junior, middle blocker, 5-8; Celine Liulamega, sophomore, setter, 5-6.

• Impact newcomers: Leana Liu, freshman, outside hitter.

• Outlook: The Trojans drop to the South Puget Sound League 3A along with Auburn Riverside. Davis works with a pair of returning starters in Ly and Liu. Ly looks to keep the team in the game defensively while Liu at outside hitter sets the offensive pace. There is plenty of room for improvement, but the competition will be stiff. The new SPSL 3A includes top-ranked Auburn Riverside and perennial powerhouses like Auburn Riverside.

• Key match: Everyone matters for the Trojans, but look for them to try and unseat their district rivals – the Ravens (7:15 p.m. Oct. 6 at Auburn Riverside) or the Lions (7:15 p.m. Sept. 24 at Auburn Mountainview).
