Auburn’s Malia Brudvik, a junior defender for the University of Mary (Bismarck, N.D.), was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
A seasoned and savvy outside defender, Brudvik’s work in a pair of 1-0 road wins allowed the Marauders to jump three spots in the conference standings.
Playing her most active offensive game of the season, Brudvik scored her first goal in a Marauders uniform against Southwest Minnesota State University on Oct. 12. In her first season at UMary, the transfer from Peninsula College (Port Angeles) took four shots at the Mustangs’ net in the game and placed three on goal, including the game-winner.
Brudvik played all 180 minutes over the weekend and keyed a Marauders’ defense that shut down SMSU and the University of Sioux Falls, S.D., on Oct. 14.
Brudvik, a 2016 Auburn Mountainview High School graduate, played four varsity soccer seasons: three under coach Carey Davidson, her senior year with coach Bryan Winkler.
At Peninsula College, she helped the Pirates clinch the Northwest Athletic Conference championship in 2016, settling for second place in 2017.
Brudvik is pursuing a degree in biomechanics at UMary, where she is on a full-ride soccer scholarship.
