Building for Learning, a Dick Scobee Community Open House, is set for Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the elementary school, 1031 14th St. NE, Auburn.

The public is welcome to review the progress of the new school project, meet the architect and get a sneak peak of what the new building will look like.

Dick Scobee, which was built in 1954, will be rebuilt on the existing site. Students will attend Olympic Middle School as an interim facility for one year while the existing school is razed and rebuilt. NAC Architecture was selected to design and administer construction of Dick Scobee.

The new Scobee school tentatively is scheduled to open in 2020.

Scobee is one of six Auburn schools that will be replaced, thanks to a voter-approved $456 million bond package. The money will build two new elementary schools, one on the south end, the other on the north end, both serving up to 650 students.

Construction is underway on the new Olympic Middle School.

Other schools that will be replaced are Pioneer Elementary (built in 1959); Chinook Elementary (1963); Terminal Park (1945) and Lea Hill (1965).
