An ice skating rink on Main Street Plaza – something Auburn has probably never had before – opened Saturday for everyone to take in.
The Auburn Downtown Association, in coordination with city officials, made it appear.
Brittiany Karlson, ADA secretary and part owner of Vinifera Wine Bar and Bistro, said the ADA had the rink shipped in from a Maryland company that does a booming business in states like Minnesota, where hockey is big, and players want to keep their on-ice skills as sharp as their skates all year around.
“It’s synthetic ice, so it doesn’t melt, no matter the temperature. The company sends it out in palettes, and it’s pretty easy to put together. It includes the synthetic ice, skates, the sharpeners, the mats, the padding, the railing, everything,” Karlson said.
The ice rink, at the corner of West Main and Division, is open until Jan. 13.
Hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets are $6 for children (under 12) and $8 for adults (skates included). Purchase tickets across the street at Gosanko Chocolate.
The ADA offers banner spots to sponsor businesses on the ice rink fence. Email info@auburndt.org for details.
