A UPS truck struck and killed a woman who was riding a mobility scooter in Auburn late Wednesday morning, Jan. 9.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the woman as Linda Head, 55, and the cause of death as multiple blunt-force trauma.

According to the Auburn Police Department, the accident occurred at about 11 a.m. at the intersection of B and 30th streets Northwest.

“She was southbound on the sidewalk at 30th and B Northwest as a … UPS truck was pulling out of a business there,” said Auburn Police Cmdr. Steve Stocker. “The UPS guy said he never saw her. He was in his turn, leaving the sidewalk, when maybe she didn’t stop for him in time, we don’t know, but it appears she hit the brakes on her scooter, and that caused her to fall out of her scooter as the truck was turning into the roadway, and the rear wheels of the trailer ran her over.”

Valley Regional Fire Authority personnel tried to revive Head, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

“There was a witness to the accident, but preliminary speaking, it doesn’t look like (the driver) did anything wrong,” Stocker said. “He never saw her.”
