Auburn falls to TJ in overtime, ends run in district playoffs

For a second consecutive night, Auburn went into overtime in a bid to stay alive in the West Central/Southwest District girls basketball tournament.

Down eight points, the Trojans rallied in the fourth quarter to tie the game after regulation but came up short to Thomas Jefferson 43-41 in an elimination game Thursday at Clover Park High School in Lakewood.

Auburn, a resilient team led by juniors, finished the season 13-12.

Emily Strojan scored 19 points to lead the Trojans. Jaya Harshman scored seven points, Tatiana Rose had six and Alerjah Hill finished with five. All four are juniors.

Harshman scored 18 points, Strojan tossed in 14 and Hill had 13 in the Trojans’ 59-56 win over the Lions 59-56 in a loser-out playoff at Rogers High School in Puyallup.

Auburn Mountainview finished the season 14-11.

Taylor Flores, the school’s all-time scorer, led the Lions with 26 points. Azaria Johnson had 10 points and Kaliyah Wicks scored seven.
