Auburn Riverside High School senior Salina Ellison spearheads a fundraising event to benefit Shared Hope International, an organization that seeks to save victims of human trafficking and rescue and restore women and children in crisis.

Youth Uniting to Save a Life will take place from 5-9 p.m. June 25 at Pacific Ballroom Dance, 1604 15th St. SW, Suite 109, Auburn.

Young women throughout the nation are targeted by sex traffickers, and the greater Seattle area is listed among the five worst cities in the nation for sex trafficking.

“As a free woman who could be targeted, I feel it is my duty to stand up against this injustice and speak for those who cannot speak,” Ellison said. “This event will bring needed attention to this important issue and will also serve as an educational resource for all those involved.”

Donations will go to Shared Hope International (SHI), a global organization dedicated to saving victims of human trafficking. Admission is $5 for 18 and under and $10 for 19 and up.

There will be guest speakers to explain the issue and a film about Shared Hope International which showcases the work they do. There also will be a three-on-three basketball tournament, food from local restaurants, and musical entertainment.
