The citywide patch-and-overlay project that gets rolling in June calls for a lot of patching and overlaying, with plenty of potential to slow the hopeful motorist’s commute.

Its major bits call for grinding and overlaying of Peasley Canyon Road from the Auburn city limits to West Valley Highway, and the same on Ellingson Road from C Street Southeast to A Street Southeast.

It also calls for patching of A Street Southeast from 37th Street Southeast to the city limits at the White River Bridge, and of West Valley Highway from 15th Street Southwest to the south city limits with Algona.

There’ll also be some new traffic signal detection equipment put in and an upgrading of curb ramps to meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

On Monday evening, the Auburn City Council awarded the contract to CPM Development Corporation (ICON Materials) on its low bid of $838,000.

The city put out the call for responsible bids, and among the six it got back was ICON Material’s, which was about 7.79 percent below the city engineer’s estimate. Staff performed reference checks and other verifications to determine that ICON met the responsible bidding criteria.

The city expects work to start in early June and wrap this October.
