Len Elliott and his older daughter, LisaRuth, have published a book, “28 Days in May – avian observations.”
Len wrote 28 poems in the haiku format based on daily observations of birds from his home on the Green River in Auburn. LisaRuth created collages portraying six of the birds.
The book was produced by hand, including typesetting, printing on a letter press, collation and binding. All these steps were performed by LisaRuth. Handmade paper for the cover was created by the San Francisco press that printed the book.
“28 Days in May” is a work of love and artistry, appealing to birders, book aficionados and poetry lovers alike. As Len puts it, “What a joy to have put it together as father and daughter.”
The book is a limited edition of 50. Some books were given to family and close friends; others have been sold with a portion of the proceeds donated to South King County’s Rainier Audubon Society.
