I must express my dismay after reading the July 19 article “Council member implicated in sign flap on railroad trestle”.
Virginia Haugen is an elected City Council member placed there by us, her voting constituents, for the purpose of representing our best interests as well as those of the community at large; not to give her a platform to promote her own undisclosed agenda.
Not that this is necessarily a rarity in politicking, but it also appears that the councilwomen is actively obstructing a local police investigation, if not outright lying to police.
I realize that this paper may take the “kid gloves” approach with those currently under investigation, but it appears she already has fessed-up her involvement while refusing to take responsibility in the published article.
I am greatly interested to see if the Chamber of Commerce has an opinion about this “joke,” as well as hearing comments from those she callously ignored as part of the punch line whose jobs are at stake.
All of these bothersome issue together cause me grave concern about her ability to impartially oversee and help direct city operations, to solicit valid input from those she has spurned and general ability to do the job she was tasked to do by the citizens of Auburn.
Exactly who is Virginia Haugen representing if not us, the city, or local business? Is there a voting record we can look at to find out?
