The girlfriend of an Enumclaw man who’d been missing for 17 days told investigators Tuesday she had found his body on her property in Oregon.
Cameron Shelden, 37, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad engineer who worked in Auburn, had been visiting his girlfriend in the unincorporated community of Otis in rural Lincoln County when he disappeared Sept. 1.
The girlfriend, Lisa Bagby, told investigators at the time that Shelden had left on foot without his truck, keys, wallet and cellphone.
Search and rescue crews combed the area for the missing man numerous times but found nothing. Last Saturday, with the help of drones and cadaver dogs, and with excavation help from the Lincoln County Road Department, deputies searched Bagby’s property, but again in vain.
Then, on Tuesday morning, deputies said, Bagby called to inform them that she had found a body on her property, as it turned out, in dense vegetation outside the radius of previous searches there.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office investigators said it’s too soon to tell how Shelden died, and they are waiting on the results of forensic tests.
