Playoff-bound Western closes out regular season with 4-0 victory over Concordia

Rotter scores a goal, adds an assist while making his 70th career start to set a program record

Senior forward Christian Rotter, an Auburn Mountainview High School product, made his 70th career start for the Western Washington University men’s soccer team Saturday night, the most in program history. He celebrated the milestone with a goal and an assist in the Vikings’ 4-0 road victory over Concordia at Portland’s Tuominen Yard.

The No. 19 nationally-ranked and Great Northwest Athletic Conference champions scored a pair of goals in each half to finish the regular season 13-4-1 overall and topped the conference table with a 10-1-1 record. The 10 conference victories are a program record and 13 wins are tied for fourth most in program history.

WWU advances to the NCAA Division II playoffs for the second time in program history.

The Vikings made it 2-0 midway through the first half at the 26:36 mark when Rotter scored his second goal of the season. Georg Cholewa had the initial shot that blocked, where Rotter finished off the carom from 12 yards out.

Rotter is 14th with 42 career points (13 goals, 16 assists) and fifth with 16 assists. He leads the GNAC with nine assists, tied for second most in WWU single-season history.
