A driver in a stolen car avid to avoid the curious eyes of a King County Sheriff’s deputy struck the officer’s patrol car and the officer before leading him on a high-speed chase across southeastern King County Monday evening.

The incident ended with the arrest of the 37-year-old driver and her 40-year-old male passenger.

Sgt. Ryan Abbott said the deputy was not hurt.

The drama unfolded at about 11 p.m. Monday in Auburn when the deputy spotted a car parked near a gated property in the 37500 block of 188th Avenue Southeast in Auburn. Curious if a burglary had occurred, the deputy stopped for a closer look, Abbott said.

At that point, the woman behind the wheel started the car, rammed the gate and put the car in reverse, hitting the deputy’s patrol car and the deputy before bolting from the scene with the officer in pursuit, Abbott said.

The chase continued for five miles before the deputy stopped the Chrysler Town and Country minivan with a pit maneuver near 212th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 436th Street in Enumclaw.

The woman, who had a warrant out for her arrest, was booked into King County jail for felony eluding and felony assault. Her male passenger provided a statement and was later released. A pitbull in the stolen vehicle was not injured.

“He teaches our emergency vehicle operations course,” Abbott said.

Deputies learned the car had been stolen from Puyallup tribal land.
