Auburn School District Superintendent Alan Spicciati released the following statement Monday about continuous learning in the district with the school closure for the remainder of the school year.
“I hope you were able to enjoy some of the beautiful weather we had last week.
With school buildings closed for the remainder of the year, we are moving forward with providing continuous learning for our students. On April 20, we will transition our focus from enrichment to new learning based on key standards. Now is the time for students to get back to work if they haven’t connected already.
We are identifying key learning standards for every grade and content area. In the remaining months of school, the goal is to cover the key standards that will move students to the next grade level. Assignments will once again be graded. Each school is working on a schedule for instruction. Do not expect your student to have six hours of instruction each day. During this unprecedented time, we are not replicating our brick and mortar schoolhouse. We are being deliberate about what key standards must be taught to move student learning forward.
Today (Monday) is the PLC (professional learning community) day for teachers who are returning after spring break. They collaborated on the successes we’ve experienced during the first weeks of closure as we plan for instruction on the key standards. Students should turn in any missing or revised work this week since teachers will begin new material next week.
Please know, once the Governor’s Stay Home-Stay Healthy order is lifted, we will have a process for students to return to school to retrieve personal items left behind in March.
I know you still have questions about seniors, grades, schedules, the school calendar, refunds, technology and more. We continue to develop processes to address the challenges of this situation. We developed a FAQ on our website and will update it as we make decisions and define processes.
Thank you for your patience as we navigate through this crisis.”
