A Federal Way motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision Monday along Peasley Canyon Road in Auburn.

Around 11 a.m. Aug. 24, King County sheriff’s deputies and South King Fire crews responded to the fatal car vs. motorcycle collision.

Witnesses told deputies that a silver Subaru was passing in a no-passing zone, which was a blind corner, according to a KCSO social media post. The witness also stated the Subaru was driving much faster than the posted 45 mph speed limit.

The Subaru then collided head-on with a motorcycle in the oncoming lane, instantly killing the motorcycle’s driver, according to the sheriff’s office.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Douglas Lewis, 63, who died from multiple blunt force injuries to the head, torso and extremities. His cause of death has been ruled an accident. Sgt. Ryan Abbott of KCSO confirmed Lewis is from Federal Way.

“No passing zones are there for a reason — because it’s a blind corner or sight lines aren’t conducive to passing,” KSCO said in the post. “Please obey no-passing zones. In this case, an innocent person paid with their life because of a driver’s refusal to do so.”

The Subaru driver, a 60-year-old female, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI. A search warrant for blood was completed and after going to a nearby hospital, the woman was later booked into the King County Jail on investigation of vehicular homicide.

King County MARR Detectives are investigating the incident.
