A 4-year-old Auburn boy was struck by a van as he was riding his tricyle in the parking lot of his apartment complex early afternoon Sept. 14, Auburn police say.

Although medics rushed the boy to Harborview Medical Center, efforts to save him were unsuccessful.

The accident happened just before 1 p.m. the 1200 block of 30th Street Southeast at the Alanza Apartments.

“The boy was riding a tricycle in the apartment parking lot,” said Auburn Police Cmdr. Mike Hirman. “Both the driver and victim were unrelated residents. The driver, a 45-year-old woman, was backing out of a parking space.”

Hirman said that the woman stayed on the scene after the crash.

“At this time there are no charges,” Hirman said.
