The King County Medical Examiner has identified the man shot and killed on Highway 18 in the early morning hours of Oct. 6 as Timothy E. Robinette, 36.

The medical examiner listed Robinette’s cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of death as a homicide.

According to Robinette’s Facebook page, he was a resident of Kent, although he was homeless at the time of his death.

According to Trooper Rick Johnson of the Washington State Patrol, the SUV Robinette was driving had been stolen from a 7-Eleven in Auburn about 15 minutes before the shooting.

According to Johnson, this is what happened:

Shortly after midnight Oct. 6, someone in a vehicle that had been chasing Robinette and the stolen SUV caught up with him on the C Street Southwest on-ramp to westbound Highway 18, and the person opened fire. According to Johnson, the SUV spun out in the wrong direction of the on-ramp and came to a stop, facing east.

Johnson then got out of the SUV and collapsed on the roadway.

The occupant, or occupants, of the other vehicle are still on the loose.

“There have been no arrests made at this time, but in speaking with the Detective Sergeant, she told me they are still actively following up on leads,” Johnson said. “I am not sure if these are from tips or not. We obviously welcome and follow up on every lead.”
