Between Dec. 7 and Dec. 13, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 257 calls for service, among them the following:

Dec. 7

Aid call: 2:48 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters treated a middle-aged woman suffering from leg edema, and a private ambulance transported her to Covington MultiCare.

Dec. 8

Shooting: 8:30 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters and paramedics evaluated and treated a man in his early 20s who had sustained a gunshot wound to one of his legs, and a private ambulance took him to Valley Medical Center.

Aid call: 1:08 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters evaluated a police officer who had sustained minor injuries while taking into custody one of the people involved in a fight at an apartment complex, and then police officers transported the officer to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.

Dec. 9

Commercial fire: 11:11 a.m., (Auburn). Firefighters responding quickly to a reported commercial fire at a strip mall on East Main Street aggressively attacked the fire, then upgraded the call to bring in more resources, including mutual aid units from Puget Sound RFA and South King Fire and Rescue. Multiple businesses were damaged. No civilians or firefighters were injured. The VRFA fire marshal’s office determined that a current overload had caused the fire.

Dec. 10

Kitchen fire: 6:58 p.m., (Lea Hill). Firefighters responding to a reported kitchen fire at the Promenade Apartments found a stove fire, already extinguished by the sprinkler system. Crews removed water from the unit. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Dec. 11

Aid call: 2:50 p.m., (Auburn). Firefighters evaluated a man who had been pinned under an estimated 1,000-pound slab of granite and was complaining of pain in both legs. A fire department aid car hustled him to a local hospital.

Dec. 12

Vehicle fire: 11:17 a.m., (South Auburn). Firefighters responding to a report of smoke coming from a parked van extinguished a smoldering fire inside the passenger compartment, then called in police to determine the vehicle’s owner. The van was a total loss.

Dec. 13

Aid call: 10:27 a.m., (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters and King County Medics responding to a report of a woman who was in respiratory distress found her not breathing and in cardiac arrest, so they performed CPR, and medics transported her to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center (MAMC).
