The City of Auburn posted an update on the status of the Auburn Avenue Theater after it was condemned earlier this month due to safety concerns.
The building received a condemnation notice following the demolition of the Max House Apartments next door. As the first step in the process, a structural engineer visited the theater on Tuesday, Jan. 4, for a preliminary evaluation of the building, according to the city.
After the preliminary evaluation, the city canceled all performances at the theater through March. Ticketholders will be contacted individually for a refund or for change of venue information, according to the city.
The city expects to have a completed structural report by the end of January 2022. Once the report is finished, the city will decide what actions to take next to re-open the theater, depending on the findings of the report.
