This past Wednesday, the Valley Regional Fire Authority recognized four Auburn Mountainview students and two instructors for their part in saving the life of David Borgens, who suffered a heart attack on the school’s track this fall.
During a school-wide assembly, Jas Kiran Kaur, Anita Voraphet, Crystal Chi and staff trainer Aaron Pierce were recognized for their part in using one of the school’s three automatic defibrillators to restart Borgens’ heart after he suffered the heart attack while jogging on the track.
Borgens thanked Steve Calhoun, Auburn Mountainview emergency medicine program instructor.
The students and Pierce are members of the school’s sports medicine program, run by Calhoun. Seven years ago Calhoun organized a fundraiser that purchased automatic defibrillators for the Auburn School District.
