Between Sept. 5 and Sept. 11, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 303 calls for service, among them the following:
Sept. 5
CPR: 2:51 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters and King County paramedics hustled to help a senior citizen who had collapsed at the Muckleshoot Casino. Bystanders were performing CPR, and casino personnel used an automatic external defibrillator on the man and delivered one shock before fire personnel arrived and took over care. The man started to breathe on his own and regained consciousness before King County paramedics transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center for additional care.
Sept. 6
Grass fire: 7:34 a.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a grass fire near 15th Street Northwest and C Street Northwest found a power pole that someone had chopped down, starting a grass fire that was about 50 feet by 50 feet. Firefighters got into the area, avoiding the downed power lines, and extinguished the fire. The fire is under investigation.
Garage fire: 12:31 p.m. (unincorporated Auburn). Firefighters responding with Mountainview Fire and Rescue for a detached garage fire were forced to shuttle water for several miles because there were no fire hydrants in the area. Firefighters extinguished the fire. No one was hurt.
Sept. 7
Aid call: 2:24 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to two people who’d suffered gunshot wounds in a fight. Firefighters, King County Medic One paramedics and Auburn police provided care for the people involved. Both people were transported to Harborview Medical Center. Auburn police are investigating the incident.
Sept. 8
Aid call: 12:18 p.m. (Lea Hill). Firefighters treated a woman who was complaining of parasites emerging from an arm wound, and a private ambulance transported her to MAMC.
Sept. 9
Car vs. pedestrian: 6:49 p.m. (Lea Hill). A teenage boy had been riding his skateboard down a hill when he collided with a vehicle and was injured. Firefighters evaluated the boy at the scene, and his family transported him to MultiCare Covington.
Sept. 10
Rubbish fire: 5:52 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a fire inside a trash compactor at an apartment complex, applied water to the fire, then sifted a massive pile of trash to ensure it was out.
Sept. 11
Minor fire: 9:05 p.m. (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters hustling to a possible dumpster fire at Sunset Park extinguished a trash can fire that had extended into the wooden bits of a backstop at the baseball field. Firefighters likewise extinguished an adjacent trash can fire.
