Driver crashes into bakery | Fire blotter

The Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 312 911 calls between Dec. 5 and Dec. 11, among them the following:

Dec. 5

Collision: 4:48 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to reports of a two-vehicle, head-on collision and found two vehicles in a southbound lane that had sustained moderate damage and a third in the northbound lane with minor damage. Witnesses told firefighters that the driver of one of the head-on vehicles had run away. The four passengers who stayed at the scene were not hurt and declined aid.

Dec. 6

Car vs. building: 11 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to the 900 block of Auburn Way South for a car vs. building incident and found that a vehicle that had been traveling at a high rate of speed had run through a line of ecology blocks and hit a donut bakery. The vehicle ended up in the middle of the street and caught fire. The driver got out by himself and ran away. Firefighters extinguished the fire and searched the vehicle for other passengers. The building was evacuated and checked for smoke. A building inspector was contacted to check the integrity of the building.

Dec. 7

Car vs. pedestrian: 7:01 p.m. (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded to a man who’d been struck by a car and found him sitting on the sidewalk, surrounded by concerned citizens. Firefighters evaluated the man for injuries and determined he was in stable condition with injuries to his feet and head. The man’s feet may have been run over during the accident, and he had temporarily lost consciousness. A private ambulance company transported the patient to a local hospital for further evaluation. Auburn Police were on the scene and contacted the driver involved.

Dec. 8

Collision: 5:02 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters who’d been dispatched to reports of a two-vehicle, injury accident found one man who was complaining of neck pain. Firefighters evaluated the guy and then transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.

Dec. 9

Accident: 8:43 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a rollover accident and found a woman trapped in a vehicle. When firefighters got the woman out, they discovered she’d suffered a severe hand injury that would require skilled surgery. Firefighters treated the woman, and then paramedics whisked her off to Harborview Medical Center for the proper level of surgical care.

Dec. 11

Explosion: 8:30 a.m. (Algona). Firefighters responded to reports of an explosion causing a power outage and found that an electrical transformer’s fuse had tripped. Firefighters found the cause to be a now-deceased squirrel that had touched electrical equipment.
