The 2023 spring sports season is upon us. Here is a preview of what each school did last season.
Baseball
Auburn Trojans: The Trojans had their best season on the diamond in 14 years, ending the season at 20-6 and a state tournament appearance. Back in 2008, the Trojans went 16-6 and reached the second round of the season ending tournament. In 2022, the Trojans had identical fate as the 2008 team. Auburn won their district tournament as well on their way to state.
Auburn Mountainview Lions: The Lions’ 2022 season record ended a game over .500 with an 11-10 record. The Lions reached the 3A District tournament and faced Peninsula High School in the opening round. After a loss to the Seahawks, the Lions faced Kelso and fell by a score of 8-4. Mountainview had a 2-0 record against crosstown rival Auburn last season, and if they can build off that momentum, they can have a great 2023 season.
Auburn Riverside Ravens: In 2022, the Ravens went 2-2 against fellow Auburn high schools, which is kind of a way to describe the Riverside season as a whole. The Ravens had two tough stretches last year — they lost their first four games, and four games over the first two weeks of April. But the Ravens were able to win four out of six to slide their way into the playoffs. The Ravens advanced to the second round of the district tournament with a win over Lakes, but fell to Gig Harbor, 11-1.
Softball
Auburn Trojans: All of the Auburn schools made it to the fastpitch district tournament the 2022 season. Auburn had the earliest exit of all of them. Auburn beat Lincoln in the first round, but ran into a buzzsaw known as the Auburn Riverside Ravens, who took out the Trojans.
Auburn Mountainview Lions: The Lions were one game shy of the state tournament. Similar to the Trojans, Mountainview ran into Riverside at the wrong time. The Lions ended the season with a 13-10 record and the 11th seed in the playoffs. The Lions won their first two games over Mountain View (Vancouver) and Gig Harbor. The Lions then lost to Riverside and Timberline in the winner to state game.
Auburn Riverside Ravens: The champs of the city wore blue and black. Riverside went 4-0 against their rivals, scoring 59 runs over those four games, and only allowed 13. The Ravens made the state tournament for the first time since 2008, and they were also the first Auburn school to reach that tournament since Auburn Mountainview made it in 2016. The Ravens made a run and were one of the last six teams in the state tournament.
Soccer
Auburn Trojans: It has been a rough couple of seasons for Auburn soccer. The Trojans went winless last year on the pitch, and the last season where Auburn had more than one win was back in 2018. In that 2018 season, Auburn went 7-7-2 on the season.
Auburn Mountainview: After a tough start to the season, taking two early losses, the Lions went on to have a very good year. The Lions went 8-0 in league play, finishing in first place in NPSL. Going into districts, Auburn Mountainview was the third overall seed. But they suffered back to back losses, eliminating them from the playoffs.
Auburn Riverside: The Ravens made it to the state tournament for the first time since 2016 last season. The Ravens came in second place during the regular season with a 10-4-2 record. The Ravens entered the district tournament at the seventh seed. After losing to Peninsula, the Ravens won their next two games over Timberline and Central Kitsap, sending them to state.
