After serving the Auburn community for more than 66 years, the demolition of the old Olympic Middle School has begun. The Auburn School District community passed a $456 million bond in 2016 that built the new Olympic Middle School and also razed and rebuilt Chinook Elementary, Dick Scobee Elementary, Lea Hill Elementary, Pioneer Elementary and Terminal Park Elementary. The bond built Auburn’s two newest elementary schools, Bowman Creek and Willow Crest. The new Olympic Elementary opened in 2019, but the old building has served as an interim site for four of the elementary schools that were rebuilt.
Terminal Park is the last building to be rebuilt as part of the 2016 bond and it will open this fall. All of the 2016 Building for Learning bond projects have opened on-time and on-budget.
The final phase of the Olympic project is to demolish the old school and build athletic fields to support physical education, school sports and the community. In the fall of 2024, the Olympic athletic fields will be ready for use.
Terra Dynamics is the contractor for the Olympic athletics fields and construction is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2024.
