July 18
House fire: 2:26 a.m. (Lakeland Hills). Firefighters responding to a house fire in Lakeland Hills found trees ablaze and flames flicking at the building. Personnel quickly deployed hose lines, drowned the fire, and then checked the interior for rogue flames, but found none. Firefighters called Puget Sound Energy to the scene to address fire involvement with the utilities, mitigated all the hazards at the scene, and returned the home to the owners.
Aid call: 6:30 p.m., (Algona). Firefighters responded to an elderly man who had dropped a pallet on his foot, sustaining a cut that would not stop bleeding. When the bleeding was stopped, family members motored the man to a hospital.
July 19
Brush fire: 4:02 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to reports of a grass fire at a local park discovered an area about 150’ x 150’ on fire and applied water in high-risk areas to prevent further spread and stop any damage from occurring. No structures were damaged in the park and the fire was contained to the grassy lawn.
Wildfire: 7:43 a.m. (Bonney Lake). Firefighters responding with East Pierce Fire Rescue to a wildfire in a heavily-wooded area along Lake Tapps employed portable pumps, hoses and hand tools to ensure the fire was extinguished and no longer a threat to surrounding neighborhoods.
Brush fire: 6:24 p.m. (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded to a fire in a wooded area near a neighborhood and found a neighbor trying to extinguish the conflagration with a garden hose. Firefighters applied more water and dug out hot-spot areas of the fire, containing it to a small 20’x 20’ area. Nobody was hurt and no property sustained any damage.
July 20
Brush fire: 4:15 p.m. (Auburn). A brush fire near Highway 18 drew firefighters from all over the zone, who extinguished the fire with hand tools and water.
Brush fire: 3:25 p.m. (Unincorporated Auburn). Firefighters responded into Mountainview Fire and Rescue’s response area for a 2-alarm brush fire. VRFA crews were assigned to use a chainsaw and hand tools to separate the burned and unburned areas, creating a gap to prevent fire spread.
July 21
Residential fire: 3:20 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to reports of a car fire. Upon arrival, the car was fully involved and a residential exposure had fire impingement. Working with additional VRFA units, firefighters extinguished both the car fire and residential exposure with hose lines, then overhauled the area. There were no injuries reported and a VRFA fire investigator was requested to determine the cause of the fire.
Aid call: 7:09 p.m. (Lea Hill). Firefighters responded to an 11-year-old girl who had sustained multiple bites from the neighbor’s dog. Personnel treated the girl at scene and a private ambulance transported her MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.
July 23
Brush fire: 5:03 p.m. (Pacific). Firefighters responded to a brush fire on Highway 167, and after finding a fast-moving brush fire spreading from multiple points, quickly upgraded to a second alarm. With the help of neighboring jurisdictions, firefighters extinguished the fire with hose lines and overhauled the area.
