Auburn family displaced after fire

The fire resulted from a space heater plugged into an extension cord power strip that overloaded the electrical circuitry of the house, according to the department.

A residential fire on Sept. 25 has displaced an Auburn family.

According to the Valley Regional Fire Authority, the department received a report of a house fire at approximately 7:43 p.m. Sept. 25.

The reporting party, a resident of the home, had evacuated with the family after calling, according to the department. A miscommunication with the alarm system resulted in a delay in reporting the fire, as the family initially did not believe they had a fire after the alarm system alerted them, according to the department.

Crews arrived at the scene of the fire in the 1800 block of 22nd Street Northeast and battled a one bedroom fire. The family — two adults and one child — was displaced by the fire, which resulted in approximately $20,000 worth of damage to the home. Damage mostly affected the bedroom in which the fire started, but there was smoke damage throughout, according to the department.

The fire resulted from a space heater plugged into an extension cord power strip that overloaded the electrical circuitry of the house, according to the department.

According to the department, the homeowner shut all the bedroom doors of the house, preventing and greatly controlling the fire from spreading further throughout the house, containing the fire to the bedroom.

Crews put out the fire in the bedroom and checked for extensions to make sure it hadn’t spread to the ceiling, floor, walls, and other rooms, according to the department.

No injuries resulted from the fire.
