Car ablaze on Highway 18 | Fire blotter

From the Valley Regional Fire Authority.

Between Jan. 1 and Jan. 7, the Valley Regional Fire Authority responded to 278 calls for service, among them the following.

Jan. 1

Obvious death: 7:09 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a report of a deceased middle-aged man and determined he had signs that were incompatible with life, then turned the scene over to Auburn Police for further investigation.

Aid call: 2:58 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a man who was possibly having a stroke, then quickly evaluated and transported him to a local hospital for further care.

Jan. 2

Rubbish fire: 12:32 p.m. (Pacific). Firefighters were called to investigate an unknown type of fire in a parking lot, where they found discarded paper and boxes burning in an open gravel parking lot. Firefighters extinguished the fire and returned to service.

Jan. 3

Aid call: 5:18 p.m. (Lea Hill). Firefighters responding to an ill man arrived to find him suffering from an ongoing infection and very sick. The man was in stable condition, but in need of further medical care and evaluation in a hospital setting, so a private ambulance service transported him to a local area hospital.

Jan. 4

Aid call: 1:24 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a man who had overdosed on an unknown substance. They treated the guy on the scene, and a private ambulance transported him to MultiCare Auburn Medical Center.

Jan. 5

Vehicle fire: 4:31 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters were dispatched to a car ablaze on Highway 18 and when they got there, they found a fully involved vehicle fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire using water, foam, and a dry chem extinguisher. Everyone made it out of the car, and no one was hurt.

Jan. 6

Fire alarm: 4:47 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responded to a residence on the report of a smell of smoke in the upstairs. After investigating the home, E334 turned off the power and gas to the furnace and informed the resident to contact the appropriate repair contractors.

Jan. 7

Residential fire: 2:11 p.m. (Auburn). Firefighters responding to a residential fire found a single-story house engulfed in flames. Firefighters extinguished the fire using hand lines, vertically ventilated the structure, and overhauled and salvaged personal items for the homeowner. The fire marshal’s office investigated the fire.
