Auburn to celebrate Earth Day with Clean Sweep event

Help Auburn celebrate Earth Day and participate in Clean Sweep.

This socially distanced event is just around the corner and you’re invited to volunteer from 9 a.m. to noon April 20.

Volunteer groups will work on general cleanup, landscaping, planting, weeding, litter pickup and other projects at various parks, trails and other public sites around Auburn. Volunteers must register in advance either online or by downloading the PDF and sending to Auburn Parks, Arts and Recreation.

Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. The city invites service clubs, social service agencies, faith-based groups, scouting troops, businesses, families, and individuals to come out for the day, work together on some beautification projects, and celebrate Auburn.

Individuals and groups can choose to participate in a specific project or can be assigned to the project that needs the most volunteer support.

Volunteers will be asked to bring tools based on their volunteer assignment (determined once registered), gardening or work gloves. Participants are encouraged to wear t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, or other clothing that identifies their group.

The morning agenda for April 20 is as follows:

7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.: Optional welcome breakfast, Auburn Community and Events Center.

8:45 a.m. to 9 a.m.: Check in at project location, emailed in advance.

9 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Volunteers commence project tasks.

Volunteers must register in advance by April 17. Register online via the city’s website or download registration form and return the form by mail or fax. All individuals will be required to sign a waiver. Call 253-931-3043 or email avaldez@auburnwa.gov.

In support of Earthday.org’s mission to reduce plastic waste, the City of Auburn’s Clean Sweep event will not be providing plastic water bottles to volunteers.
