A student at Cascade Middle School suspected of having marijuana and vaping materials at school was found to be carrying a gun.
On Dec. 13, the Auburn School District posted to ParentSquare — a website schools use to communicate with families — notifying families that a student was being searched for a vape and/or marijuana and in the process a gun was discovered. The post said that no expressed threat had been made at Cascade.
The post said that when the gun was discovered, administrators immediately confiscated the weapon and called the Auburn Police Department, prompting multiple APD cars to respond. According to the post, school district officials are taking the situation very seriously and the student faces appropriate consequences. Additionally, the post said all students were safe, and the day continued as normal.
“Please encourage your students to report any concerns directly to the school so that it can be addressed. This is a good time to remind families the district also has an anonymous Safe Schools tip line to report any type of concern,” the post said. “It takes the whole community to keep our schools safe. We know it is concerning and are committed to making sure the community has accurate information.”
