Pacific gives way to minor flooding

Pacific experienced some minor urban flooding from the weekend’s heavy rains.

The swollen White River was flowing at 6,500 cubic feet per second late Monday morning, above flood stage, according to Mayor Richard Hildreth.

“We have seen one issue we were not expecting. Groundwater is being pushed up and causing minor flooding north of Pacific Park,” Hildreth said. “This does include some crawl spaces of homes.”

As a result, city officials closed the entrance at the park to divert groundwater in the park off of 3rd Avenue Southeast.

Despite some minor flooding, the city held up well to the flood threat, Hildreth said.
