Auburn Mountainview senior Starr Hernandez is a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Washington state champion in Word 2013.

Auburn Mountainview senior Starr Hernandez is a Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Washington state champion in Word 2013.

By completing the Word 2013 industry exam with 100 percent accuracy in a very fast time, she is qualified for the Certiport 2016 MOS U.S. National Championship in June in Orlando, Fla.

Only 12 students from each state are invited to the competition in Orlando.

The Auburn School District Board of Directors recently recognized Morgan Collings, an eighth-grader at Olympic Middle School, for being an outstanding student. While in middle school, she has taken algebra, geometry, trigonometry and biology as high school courses, earning A grades in all of them. She has won the Olympic spelling bee three years in a row, advancing to the state-level contests. In addition to her academic efforts, Collings plays the bassoon in the school band, is on the track team and performs in plays. Outside of school, Collings competes in Taekwan-do and enjoys reading. She will attend Auburn High next year. …

The school board of Directors also recognized Patty Ankerfelt, office manager at Pioneer Elementary, for her outstanding service. Ankerfelt began her career in the school district as a para educator in 2002. She became the office manager at Pioneer in 2010. “This is my home away from home,” Ankerfelt said. “Every morning I am grateful for the opportunity to help staff and students with whatever the day may bring.” Ankerfelt, an Auburn native, attended Lea Hill Elementary, Cascade Middle School and Auburn High School. …
