The Highline Community College Foundation received a $75,000 donation from Alaska Airlines for student scholarships. These funds will provide financial assistance for ABE/GED and ESL students over the next five years.

Highline Community College has programs and initiatives tailored to serve the needs of this diverse population. The Adult Basic Education department, which provides English as a Second Language and GED programming, is the largest program in the state, serving over 5,000 students per year and comprising one-third of the total college enrollment.

Alaska Airlines has an extensive history of promoting the welfare of South King County and supporting the organizations and institutions that meet the basic needs of the community members.

“Giving back to the community we call home is a fundamental part of who we are as a company,” said Alaska Airlines President and CEO, Brad Tilden. “Highline Community College serves a critical role in the South King County area and we applaud their commitment to serving the residents of our diverse city.”

To be eligible, students must be enrolled in an ABE/GED or ESL course at Highline Community College, projected to complete the GED tests or successfully complete the highest ESL level (level 5) and intend to enroll in a credit level program of study within one quarter of receiving the scholarship.
