The Auburn Riverside fastpitch team ended its season on Tuesday with a 5-4 loss to Kentwood in a one-game playoff to determine the No. 5 seed into the South Puget Sound League 4A tournament.
Kentwood scored twice in the bottom of the fourth, with the Ravens answering in the top of the sixth, tying it up at 2-2.
In their half of the sixth, the Conks’ freshman catcher Allison Newcomb hit a 270 foot two-run homer to left field, putting Kentwood on top again 4-2.
In the top of the seventh inning, Auburn Riveride again rose to the occasion, with sophomore Ashley Fraser doubling and driving in two runs, to tie it up 4-4.
Newcomb proved too much for pitcher Alishia Jarman, however, driving in Brianne Cossey in the bottom of the seventh to put the game away for the Conks.
Newcomb finished the game with 3-for-4 htting with four RBIs, two runs and a home run.
The Ravens finish the season 7-10 in the SPSL North 4A, 8-11 overall.
The team will lose seniors Shannon Keith, Kara Jenkins and Amanda Langdon to graduation.
