For the Ravens, the road to the state tournament was a rocky one.

Failing to qualify outright for the tournament – as the Lions did by winning the East Division title – Auburn Riverside was forced to fight its way through the wild-card tournament last Friday and Saturday at Rogers Pool in Puyallup.

The Ravens easily defeated their first-round opponents Peninsula 13-1 on Friday, setting up a match against Bellevue on Saturday.

Against Bellevue, both teams struggled to score, with a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation sending the match into overtime.

Auburn Riverside junior Charissa Dorn scored the game-winning goal, her third of the contest, to win the game with only a second left on the clock.

Teammate Stori Freelund also had a goal.

In their third-round match, the Ravens fell to Puyallup 5-3.

A win in its final game, 11-2 over Sumner, qualified Auburn Riverside for the tourney with a 3-1 record.

Pool play in the state tourney began on Wednesday at the Rogers Pool with results unavailable at press time.

The Lions opened with a first-round match against powerhouse Mercer Island, with Auburn Mountainview drawing Puyallup.

The tourney continued Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Curtis High School Pool in University Place.
