Ballots for the recall election of Pacific Mayor Cy Sun are expected to arrive in mailboxes this week.
According to Kim van Eckstrom, King County Department of Elections chief communications officer, the ballots for the June 25 special election were mailed on Wednesday.
“They should be showing up in mailboxes on Thursday and Friday,” van Eckstrom said.

At the Unified Karate Academy they believe in doing things old school.
“It’s just traditional training, lots of the basics,” Sensei James Penor said. “The kids like to learn though.”
For Penor and the athletes he trains in karate classes held at Green River Community College and at the Auburn Dojo at Rainier Middle School, the basics have paid off.
Penor’s students took home an astounding 25 trophies, including the 5-foot Grand Champion Kata (forms) trophy won by black belt Charles Nguyen, at the 40th annual Shorin-ryu Open at Mill Creek Middle School in Kent last week.

Less than a year after getting her first taste of competitive rowing as a freshman on the Western Washington University women’s crew program, the Auburn Mountainview graduate found herself standing atop the podium as a member of the 2010 NCAA Division II Viking rowing championship squad.
“It was very exciting,” she said. “I’m not sure I knew how big of a deal it was at the time. I knew we had a good team, but I realize now how special it was looking back.”
The community – including Auburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1741, the American Legion, Mayor Pete Lewis, members of the City Council, the Inter-Tribal Warrior Society and Boy Scout Troops 398 and 401 – took time to honor those who have died serving in the U.S. armed forces during a Memorial Day service at Mountain View Cemetery’s Memorial Flag Plaza on Monday.
With weeks remaining before the June 25 special election, in which Pacific voters will determine whether to recall Mayor Cy Sun, the King County Department of Elections has released the official ballot language.
According to the ballot, voters will have to consider whether Sun committed malfeasance, misfeasance and violated his oath of office in two instances in their decision to decide whether to remove him from office.
Theatergoers at the Auburn Avenue Theater will not only get the chance to watch the Auburn Community Players production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”, they may also get a chance to take the stage and be part of the cast.
According to director Suzanne Messinger, before each performance of the play, four audience members will have the opportunity to join the cast on stage as participantd in the bee.
The play premieres at 7:30 p.m. Friday, one of seven performances at the historic theater.
For some, an eighth-place finish in the 800-meter race at the Washington State 4A Track and Field Championships might have been a disappointment.
For Auburn Riverside senior Trevor Love, it was a triumph.
“My asthma kicked in really bad,” said Love, gasping for air minutes after the end of his race last Saturday at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma.
Auburn Mountainview baseball coach Glen Walker remembers the moment it all come together for his state 3A championship team.
“There are a lot of things I’ll remember about this year,” Walker said. “I’ll remember the retreat we had at the beginning of the season.”

The Committee to Recall Cy Sun turned in petitions to the King County Elections Division on
April 29 having collected more than 550 signatures from registered voters in Pacific seeking a special election to decide Sun’s future as mayor.

Five current and former members of the Pacific Police Department have filed a civil suit against the City and Mayor Cy Sun, seeking an order that would return suspended Chief John Calkins and Lt. Edwin Massey to duty as well as prohibit Sun from interfering in the City’s police department in the future.
Calkins, Massey, Sgt. Michel Bos, Officer Josh Hong and former officer Jeremiah Schliesman filed the suit in King County Superior Court on April 21, alleging Sun had intimidated and defamed the officers and wrongfully placed Calkins and Massey on administrative leave.
The Committee to Recall Cy Sun delivered more than 550 signatures to to the King County Elections office Monday morning for verification in the quest to recall controversial Pacific Mayor Cy Sun.
According to the committee, 556 signatures from registered voters in Pacific were turned in. A minimum of 412 signatures are required to put the recall on a ballot.
This past week the Washington State Supreme Court denied Sun’s appeal of the recall, clearing the way for the committee to begin collecting signatures on Friday.
