The big day may have been more than two weeks away, but for 22 kids from the Auburn School District, last Saturday must have seemed like Christmas morning.
The children, one each from the district’s 22 schools, were on hand at the Auburn Walmart Supercenter for the Auburn Police Officers Association-sponsored Shop With a Cop event.
“This is the second one we’ve done,” said Officer Jody Howard, event organizer. “I’d heard about it in other cities. We give money throughout the year and donate, but we set up some side funds for this. Last year we did 13 kids, but this year I wanted to do all the schools.
Hope that the City of Pacific’s insurance would continue past Dec. 31 was dashed on Monday with the announcement that the City’s insurer had declined a request for an extension.
Pacific residents were informed of the decision made by the board of the Cities Insurance Association of Washington at a well-attended city council meeting Monday evening in the Pacific gym.
The Cities Insurance Association of Washington has declined a request to extend the troubled City of Pacific’s insurance coverage past Dec. 31.
Pacific Council will consider the city’s options tonight.
Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Auburn) has sent a letter to Cities Insurance Association of Washington (CIAW) Chairman Wes Drago, asking for an extension of Pacific’s insurance coverage.
“I am asking for you to grant a six month extension of the decision to cancel the liability insurance at the end of the year,” Reichert wrote in a letter dated Dec. 7.
