This past Saturday during the Washington State Water Polo championships at the Curtis Pool it was Auburn Riverside’s turn, the squad squeaking by Auburn Mountainview with a 7-6 overtime win in a battle for fifth- and sixth-place.
Coming into this past weekend’s Washington State 3A Volleyball Championship the Auburn Mountainview girls had one thing on their mind.
“Our expectation was leaving with a trophy and nothing less,” said coach Nicole Claudon.
On Saturday the Lions (16-5) accomplished their goal with a fifth-place finish, beating Glacier Peak 3-1 with scores of 25-18, 25-22, 21-25 and 25-21 to claim the trophy.

No. 2 Mount Si ended Auburn Mountainview’s season on Friday, dealing the Lions a 52-7 loss in a first-round 3A crossover district playoff game at Snoqualmie.
The Auburn Trojans managed to fend off Olympia’s late surge Saturday to earn a 41-38 district playoff win at Auburn Memorial Stadium.
The third-ranked Auburn Mountainview boys water polo team snagged the East Division title last week with an 18-6 win over district rival Auburn.
It’s back to the postseason for Auburn. The Trojans (7-1 South Puget Sound League North 4A, 7-2 overall), who missed out on the postseason last year, host the 4-5 Olympia Bears at 7 p.m. Saturday at Auburn Memorial Stadium in the first round of the district playoffs.

Don’t call it an upset. Although Auburn Mountainview’s 30-26 win against South Puget Sound League 3A rival Bonney Lake last Saturday might have stunned some, it wasn’t much of a surprise to Lions coach Jared Gervais.
