Price-Helton Funeral Home celebrated its 100th anniversary with a party and cake-cutting ceremony last Saturday.

The funeral home has been a part of the Auburn community since George W. Scott founded the chapel in February 1911. Originally family owned, the Price-Helton belongs to the Dignity Memorial network of more than 1,600 funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers

“It was built by family,” said Auburn’s Sandra Walker, Price-Helton general manager. “Thanks to the community and their hard work and support, we’ve been able to carry on their legacy.”

In 1911, the funeral home was located on the east side of North Division Street in Auburn. In 1922. Scott built a new funeral home at 114 North Division Street.

In 1947, Del B. Price purchased the business and renamed the firm Price Funeral Chapel. In 1955, Frank Walters, owner of the Buckley-King Mortuary in Tacoma, purchased the firm. The funeral home was remodeled and expanded several times, with a major remodel in 1966 that included a new chapel.

In June 1999, Price-Helton moved four blocks to its new location at 702 Auburn Way North. Graced by an iconic clock tower, the facility contains more than 12,000 square feet of space, including a chapel that seats more than 200 people.
