On Oct. 17, 2017, the Auburn Reporter published a story based on a press release from the Washington State Insurance Commissioner regarding Danylo Pavlenko, the 33-year-old owner of a used-car dealership.
The news report inaccurately stated that Mr. Pavlenko had pleaded guilty to, and was convicted of, a “felony” for filing a false insurance claim, including submitting a falsified invoice for a car claiming he had paid $35,000 for a vehicle when he had actually paid $649 to his own dealership.
Mr. Pavlenko did plead guilty to making such a false insurance claim, but what he was charged with, and what he pleaded guilty to, was a misdemeanor, not a felony.
