The Federal Aviation Administration recently honored Auburn’s Allen McGregor with the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award.

The award is named in honor of Taylor, the first aviation mechanic in powered flight. The award recognizes the lifetime accomplishments of senior mechanics. Taylor served as the Wright brothers’ mechanic and is credited with designing and building the engine for their first successful aircraft.

McGregor began his career in aviation in the U.S. Air Force in 1961 and served for eight years. Since that time Allen has worked for various aviation companies, including McDonnell Douglas, Flightcraft, Galvin Flying Service, and American Avionics.

McGregor has twice been selected Washington Aircraft Mechanic of the Year and enjoys teaching and mentoring younger aircraft mechanics. He has worked as senior mechanic for American Avionics since August 2009, and is still going strong.

“Allen is someone that served his country proudly, and is an example of a dedicated, honest, hard-working American who stays working in the field that they enjoy,” said Kyle Hennessey, owner of American Avionics. “We are proud and lucky to have him at American Avionics.”
