Pick-Quick Drive In of Auburn welcomed former U.S. representative and gubernatorial candidate Jay Inslee and representatives from the City of Auburn on Tuesday to discuss how traditional businesses can adopt green practices and explore ways in which businesses of all backgrounds can incorporate innovation.

“Pick-Quick, like all restaurants, is an old economy, brick and mortar business.” said Gerard Centioli, president and CEO of Pick-Quick Development Company LLC. “While it is not a new economy business on the cutting edge of technology, Pick-Quick Auburn is operating in a way that demonstrates how an old economy business can act progressively and responsibly in our community. We are proud to share our success in this area with Mr. Inslee.”

Pick-Quick of Auburn was designed with architecture reminiscent of the original Pick-Quick, built in Fife in 1949, updated to incorporate the newest green technology.

The 28 dining room chairs are Emeco 111 Navy Chairs, each created from 111 recycled Coca-Cola bottles. The parking lot and exterior walkways are made from pervious concrete, which allows rain water to be collected in a rain garden and used to water the landscape; the water from the hand sinks is filtered and also used to water the landscape. Hybrid fuel-efficient cars can park in two reserved parking spaces.
