Seven local merchants are showing their community spirit by supporting the United States Power Squadrons District 16 photo contest.

They are contributing to safe boating in the Northwest by donating prizes to winning entries of the photo contest.

The USPS District 16 is using the photo contest to create awareness and enthusiasm for its organization, as well as build support for safe boating across the region. The sponsors are key to attracting attention to the mission of the Power Squadrons.

The following merchants are promoting boater education through their support:

• Gold Star Marine Port, Townsend: $2,000 in boat repair labor

• Quickline California: $750 Ultra Anchor

• Ranger Tugs, Kent: $300 Sea Ranger binoculars

• Auburn Sports & Marine, Auburn $100 gift cards

• Cascade Marine Everett, $100 gift cards

• Fisheries Supply Seattle, $100 gift card

• Kenmore Camera Kenmore, $100 gift card

In the Northwest, where water-related activities abound, there are always risks associated with these fun activities. The 16 squadrons are using education to help mitigate those risks in our communities. For a list of Power Squadron locations, visit the District 16 website.

The United States Power Squadrons is a not-for-profit, charitable organization dedicated to promoting safe boating through education. District 16 of the country-wide, 100-year-old organization, is based throughout the Northwest. Educational classes include basic boating and advanced courses such as seamanship, piloting and on-the-water training.

Auburn Sports & Marine is among the area merchants promoting boater education through its support of United States Power Squadrons District 16.
