Valley Cities Counseling & Consultation will hold a community celebration recognizing the grand opening of the Valley Cities Landing on Friday, Aug. 27, from 4-7 p.m. at 2516 I St. NE in Auburn.
Speakers will include King County Executive Dow Constantine, King County Council Chair Bob Ferguson, King County Council Member Pete von Reichbauer and Auburn Mayor Pete Lewis.
Valley Cities Landing is a 24-unit permanent supportive housing project dedicated to serving homeless individuals with persistent mental illness and veterans with mental illness. The housing is combined with support services that address physical and behavioral health issues, improve connection to community resources and increase skills that build and sustain ongoing housing stability.
Supportive housing is for individuals ready to live independently in the community with support services. Valley Cities Landing tenants will be screened and assessed to confirm that they are able to live in this type of setting. The studio apartments at Valley Cities Landing have full kitchens and baths, and the residents will be responsible for their own meals, apartment maintenance, and paying their portion of rent.
“This project has taken over three years to complete and is a true example of a successful partnership between Valley Cities Counseling and Consultation (Valley Cities), the citizens of Auburn, City of Auburn, King County, and the State of Washington,” said Faith Richie, Valley Cities CEO
“This project provides local jobs and involves local businesses such as general contractor Synergy Construction, Inc., architects from The Keimig Associates, our development partner Common Ground, property management with United Marketing, Inc. and furniture from Auburn Way Furniture and SleepCenter.”
Capital financing partners include the City of Auburn, WA Department of Commerce Housing Trust Fund, King County Veterans and Human Services Levy, King County Mental Illness and Drug Dependency (MIDD) Sales Tax Collections, and King County Jumpstart Initiative funds. Operating and service funding comes from WA Department of Veterans Affairs, King County Mental Health, Chemical Abuse and Dependency Services Division, WA Department of Commerce, and Federal McKinney Funds.
