City’s diversified needs

Mayor Lewis … the slogan “One Auburn,” was I am sure intended to encourage people to work together for the same goal. But the goals of one part of Auburn can be completely different from another part.

Auburn is a diversified community, especially with the recent annexations. East Hill may not have or want the same needs as West Hill or downtown Auburn.

Those of us who have lived in or near the fringe of Lea Hill moved here 40 years ago because we wanted to live in an uncongested, quiet area. We are independent residents who are happy to live without all the amenities of a structured area with other needs. Our way of life is simple, more country oriented, and we are really not interested in sewers, water, garbage pickup, street lights, shopping centers, bus service and the things the new residents expect, now that they have located in this area.

So, to try to achieve “One Auburn” makes me nervous about what that really means. It makes it much simpler for the City of Auburn if everyone has the same goals and needs. It really takes some planning, research with the residents and hard work and cooperation with all of the residents to make Auburn the place we want to continue to live in and for the reasons we moved here years ago.

Our children were born here, went to school here, but moved to other areas because Auburn and Kent have changed. Our tax dollars had helped support the schools and slow progress this area had experienced, and we would like to think we will continue to enjoy the same lifestyle our tax dollars pay for.
