It is common knowledge that Washington citizens do not drive well in snow. Well, I have just found that we do not walk well in snow also.
A lady jaywalked across M Street Southeast at the 900 block on (Nov. 23). Had I braked, I would have slid into her. I let off on the gas and hugged the center mound of snow, hoping I would not slide into oncoming traffic or hit her. Fortunately, I was able to do both, missing her by one foot, with my heart pounding up into my throat. Obviously, she gave no thought to the effect the snow would have on my ability to brake.
Stupid is as stupid does, and stupid can get us killed.
