Although not an avid supporter of Mayor Nancy Backus, I and residents of Auburn would be better off with her continuing on as mayor than “Hillary Lite,” Largo Wales.

My reasoning is based on her admitted support for Auburn to be a sanctuary city, which I strongly oppose.

For an elected official to support a policy that defies the law of the land and gives sanctuary to known criminals suggests that those elected officials embrace a paradigm that they are above the law, can pick and choose which laws are acceptable and which are not. This kind of attitude they apply to their own stewardship in their elected capacity.

Ms. Wales should not be elected as the next mayor.
