We were shocked and saddened to hear that the City Council once again has voted to delay our community center.
We have lived in Auburn for some 40 years, and we have watched as time after time we have come close but then things don’t come together for a community center.
Tell us: what other city of 74,000 people does not have a community center?
According to Councilman Rich Wagner, we have the money now, thanks in part to a generous grant from the state. By waiting, the price will only go up.
There is a conservative group in town that wrote several letters to this paper against the community center. Time and again, this group never wants to spend money on anything. They have no vision for our city. Their letters may have made some on the City Council uneasy, especially our new members. Giving in to this group will only encourage more negativity.
We know that they do not speak for the majority in Auburn who want the best for our fair city, and know the wonderful benefits a community center will bring. It will be a gathering place for a multitude of activities and groups, bringing our city together. It will increase property values and elevate our city and quality of life.
If you agree, please let your City Council know. We have been waiting long enough.
